You may need to wear your glasses or contact lenses all the time if the negative number is high (high myopia), or only when you need to see something clearly if myopia is not serious (low myopia). Orthokeratology is a non-surgical procedure for myopia correction, in which you wear special contact lenses that slowly reshape the cornea and when the lenses are removed and the patient can see clearly without the lenses temporarily. Myopia can also be corrected by eye surgery, such as LASIK or PRK. LASIK is the most common surgery for correcting myopia, in which a flap is cut through the top of the cornea by an excimer laser. In PRK the laser removes a layer of corneal tissue to correct myopia, which allows light rays to focus on the retina. If the eye surgery is successful, you may not need to wear glasses or contacts.
